About me

 My full name is Martinus Theodorus Maria van Lin and I was born on June 4 1961 at 06:05 am in Maastricht (NL).

With my 6 brothers and two sisters I grew up in a small village called Meerssen. On September 1 1980 I moved in with my partner Gerard Heygele (July 9 1948) in Maastricht.

Unfortunately Gerard diseased on June 21 2002 and since that I'm single and quite happy with it (well sort of) :-)

However I was born Roman Catholic, I consider myself simply  (liberal) Christian.

I spend most of my time behind some computer, ether helping out people or volunteering for several Free Software projects.

I've been a computer enthusiast since the early 1980's an used a diversity of systems (links to Wikipedia):

• MSX;
• C= 64; 
• Commodore-Amiga;
• Intel x86.

I used emulators to play around with Apple ][, Apple Macintosh (II series), Atari ST and Sinclair Spectrum series.

I ran a Land line BBS from 1989 and a CB Packet Radio BBS from 1998 up to 2002 and, oh, how surprising ML2MST was it's callsign ;-)

The non firmware kernel based Operating Systems I've experienced are:

• CP/M;
• MS-DOS;
• MS-Windows;

Currently using - in random order -: 

• GNU/Linux (main production system);
• AROS;
• FreeDOS;
• MINIX 3;
• OpenBSD.

And a dozen of other Operating Systems, which I mainly use as a toy (just foolin' 'round with, for the fun of it) :-) 

From the early days, to my 46'th birthday I produced music as a one man band, highly inspired by the early recordings of Alice Cooper, Mike Oldfield and Patrick Cowley,

In 2005 however I learned about David E. Farmer, who became my favorite artist. Somehow I got sort of obsessed by Dave's sound and realized, that I was finally simply copying his sound, which of course is very lame. This brought me to the conclusion it was about time to quit. Now who needs a lame copycat looser :-) 

I feel pretty lucky to be part of the White hat hacking community. Unfortunately there is quite some confusion about what a "hacker" actually is. Fortunately Eric S, Raymond clears things up in this howto.
